Arabesque — An ornamental design composed of flowing, interlacing, and rhythmic lines, often incorporating stylized foliage, tendrils, scrolls, geometric patterns, or curvilinear forms. Originating in Islamic decorative arts and later adopted into European ornamentation, the arabesque emphasizes continuous movement, harmony, repetition, and elegant linear rhythm within a composition. In sculpture, architecture, and design, the term may also describe a graceful flowing movement or serpentine arrangement of forms.
